Iāve been a part of this community here on Reddit for a while now and itās so interesting to see how different some things can be in different countries.
Iām from Brazil and here are some interesting facts / differences Iāve noticed:
ā> Rabbits are not common pets at all. I know they arenāt mainstream anywhere in the world, but here they are especially rare. Almost everyone acts surprised when I mention I have rabbits
ā> Due to how uncommon they are, we donāt have a lot of options available in the market for rabbits. I always see people here talking about alfalfa hay and Timothy hay. Here we donāt have those options. The options for bunny safe toys and treats is also very slim, I bake my bunnyās treats at home because of that
ā> Vets specialized in exotic pets are also hard to find, especially in smaller cities. I am lucky to live in a city with good vets available, but there are many places where there are no vets that specialize in Rabbits. Itās also pretty hard to find emergency clinics and stuff that runs 24/7, which is complicated because my bunnies tend to feel bad at night š
ā> itās also not common at all to spay / neuter rabbits here. People are always chocked when I tell them that my bunny is spayed, a lot of people donāt even know that thatās an option
ā> bunnies are not vaccinated in Brazil. The reason for that is that thereās no prevalence of the most common rabbit diseases here, only in rural areas. Therefore, itās not considered a risk and vaccines arenāt available
ā> there arenāt many rescues or shelters. I am a volunteer for a nonprofit that rescues bunnies, but itās way less structured than in other places. The rescued rabbits stay with volunteers, rescues donāt have a facility or specific installations. We also donāt have anything like bunny speed dating and stuff, those options arenāt available here.
ā> it is also extremely hard to find services dedicated for rabbits. We donāt have people that offer bonding services or ābunny hotelsā. I traveled this year and it was super challenging to find a person that specialized in housing bunnies
ā> health products are also not super common. We donāt have options like critical care or stuff like that easily available
ā> romaine lettuce is not common in Brazil at all. Itās hard to find and expensive. Thereās only one place in my city that sells romaine lettuce. Itās sad because it is my bunnyās favorite š
Those are some facts / differences that I could think of. Would love to hear from people from other parts of the world
