šŸŒŽFun facts: having bunnies around the world

I’ve been a part of this community here on Reddit for a while now and it’s so interesting to see how different some things can be in different countries.

I’m from Brazil and here are some interesting facts / differences I’ve noticed:

—> Rabbits are not common pets at all. I know they aren’t mainstream anywhere in the world, but here they are especially rare. Almost everyone acts surprised when I mention I have rabbits

—> Due to how uncommon they are, we don’t have a lot of options available in the market for rabbits. I always see people here talking about alfalfa hay and Timothy hay. Here we don’t have those options. The options for bunny safe toys and treats is also very slim, I bake my bunny’s treats at home because of that

—> Vets specialized in exotic pets are also hard to find, especially in smaller cities. I am lucky to live in a city with good vets available, but there are many places where there are no vets that specialize in Rabbits. It’s also pretty hard to find emergency clinics and stuff that runs 24/7, which is complicated because my bunnies tend to feel bad at night šŸ˜…

—> it’s also not common at all to spay / neuter rabbits here. People are always chocked when I tell them that my bunny is spayed, a lot of people don’t even know that that’s an option

—> bunnies are not vaccinated in Brazil. The reason for that is that there’s no prevalence of the most common rabbit diseases here, only in rural areas. Therefore, it’s not considered a risk and vaccines aren’t available

—> there aren’t many rescues or shelters. I am a volunteer for a nonprofit that rescues bunnies, but it’s way less structured than in other places. The rescued rabbits stay with volunteers, rescues don’t have a facility or specific installations. We also don’t have anything like bunny speed dating and stuff, those options aren’t available here.

—> it is also extremely hard to find services dedicated for rabbits. We don’t have people that offer bonding services or ā€œbunny hotelsā€. I traveled this year and it was super challenging to find a person that specialized in housing bunnies

—> health products are also not super common. We don’t have options like critical care or stuff like that easily available

—> romaine lettuce is not common in Brazil at all. It’s hard to find and expensive. There’s only one place in my city that sells romaine lettuce. It’s sad because it is my bunny’s favorite šŸ˜…

Those are some facts / differences that I could think of. Would love to hear from people from other parts of the world
