Guys the vet told me he needs his collar for a whole week. Its the third day and I’m tempting to take it off. The vet seemed to be not so educated about rabbits because the dr told me not to feed him before surgery or after. Which I did not listen to.

I think I’m gonna take it off

I assume this is for a neuter? It depends on the rabbit – if they seem like they’re really going for their incisions, having the cone on for the week is recommended as if their incisions open, that’s an even bigger and more expensive treatment needed.

Mine left his stitches after his neuter alone. It’s not common to have the hard cone on them and that vet would too have lost my trust about aftercare with saying not to feed them before/after. I’d take it off to be honest (if it was a neuter) and monitor that he leaves the stitches alone, and if not, follow some of the suggestions on the auto mod link.

My rabbit just had a tumor removed two weeks ago. It was her second operation and she only licked her stitches a little bit. I believe the cone isn’t necessary but if you think the stitches are going to bug your bun I would go get some Vetricyn antimicrobial spray. It is also anti itch and is ok to be licked. My rabbit savvy vet believes a cone is a last, last resort.
