Wild Baby Bunnies – 8 days old

These babies were born on May 22nd, 2008. Mama came back every night to feed and clean her babies.

This video is clips and photos of when they were 8 days old. We have at least 3 to 4 baby bunny nests in our yard every year.

BEFORE COMMENTING, please know that touching wild baby rabbits does not:

1) make the mother abandon the nest,

2) make the mother kill and eat her babies (someone ACTUALLY posted this, LOL!!),

3) make the babies catch on fire and morph into werewolves.

Rabbit moms only come back to the nest to clean and feed the babies only once per 24 hours, and only stays for 5 minutes at a time. It’s easy to worry that she’s abandoned them – but she hasn’t.

If you find a nest and do not KNOW that the mother is dead for SURE: DO NOT MOVE THE BABIES. DO NOT BRING THEM INSIDE. YOU WILL BE SIGNING THEIR DEATH SENTENCE.

If you know for a fact that mama has been killed, their best bet will be with someone that is an expert. Baby bunnies are notoriously difficult to care for. Contact a local wildlife rehab center, or a local vet.
