Close up experience with a wild baby rabbit, which would have made our day, but unfortunately it’s suffering from Myxomatosis and is already blind.
Myxomatosis is a viral disease that’s passed on via direct contact or via biting insects (fleas and mosquitoes). Since this rabbit is so young going to assume it was infected via direct rabbit to rabbit contact, the area (Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve) has had a high incidence of myxomatosis in recent years.
The rabbit won’t survive long and will suffer quite badly, if you own pet rabbit and live in an area affected by this disease you should get your rabbits vaccinated ASAP.
