Wild Cottontail Rabbit dust bathing and grooming

Filmed through my kitchen window, this adult male Eastern Cottontail was enjoying the relative safety of my yard. It is unusual to see them relax. Most footage is time-lapsed.

Facts from the North Texas Rabbit Sanctuary:
1) Baby rabbits are very cute and it is natural to want to handle them. However, they are very easily stressed by handling and noise. Any undue stress can cause them to have heart failure. 2) There is a 90% mortality rate with orphaned baby rabbits in human care. 3) Mother rabbits only nurse their babies for approximately 5 minutes twice a day. 4) The mothers return to the nest once or twice a day in the evening or at night letting the babies appear abandoned and orphaned so as not to call attention to the nest for predators.
