All babies are cute and these bunnies are no exception to the rule!
We’ve been watching over them and helping out mama for a while now.
She made her nest, or is it a burrow, in a flower planter that is about 18 inches tall. Apparently she felt it was a safe place to raise her babies, but it has several flaws.
1. We have to be able to water the flowers that are, well pretty, but also provide part of their shelter.
2. As the babies are getting bigger and more curious they hop out of the planter, but can’t get back in.
So, each morning after their first feeding we gather the babies up in a box while we water the plants.
Also, we just keep and eye out to make sure none of them have jumped out and need a hand back in.
No, touching the babies does not make the mother abandon the babies. In fact, if we didn’t help they wouldn’t survive.
There are 3 bunnies now, but there were 4 to start. One got out and was swept off by a hawk early in the morning because we weren’t sure if it would be ok to help it back into the nest.
But mama and her 3 remaining bunnies are doing great!
