I bought the rabbit (Jimcakes) at a marketplace sort of event in Mississippi. The man who was selling him sold him for very cheap and was telling other customers at his place how to cook the chickens and other animals he was selling, so I'm assuming he had the same plan for Jimcakes until I bought him. He told me that he's male and one year old. He's in a temporary cage for now, but his hutch (2 story) will be here in 2 days. Until then, he's at ground level.
I have three cats (sorry if the formatting bugs out when I post this):
Moomoo – 7 year old neutered male, used to new animals
Toes – 1 year old female, currently too sickly to be fixed and is lethargic until this infection clears up with her medication. not sure about how she feels with new animals.
Timmy – 3 year old neutered male, the biggest problem.
timmy is my cat. he lives in my room basically and I have a cat door installed in my door for him. he gets very anxious if he can't be in here with me. the problem is that he cannot be in here while I'm asleep with this bunny here too. last night when the bunny first got here, his tail looked up and his back hairs stood but he's calmed down immensely. he's in here with us right now and he's being very polite and sitting in a corner just looking at the cage, which is covered with blankets with a small hole for the bunny to look out. I'm watching them constantly. timmy is more skittish than anything. I'm fairly certain he's scared of the bunny. he did wiggle his butt and he does stalk when he walks around Jimcakes, but he always flinches out of nowhere then runs away before he gets close enough for me to intervene. still, I'm not leaving them alone. moomoo is purely curious. he keeps his tail up and stays relaxed.
Timmy ran in here earlier when my mom came in but I caught him and he let me hold him in my lap while Jimcakes was out of his cage wandering. timmy stayed still and didn't try to run until I put him down, and even then he just bolted for the hall instead of Jimcakes.
Jimcakes himself is doing outstanding, especially considering his previous conditions. he's going to the vet soon to get his teeth fixed, neutered, and vaccinated. anyways, he's eating and pooping and he LOVES drinking water. he was so scared he wouldn't move last night, but by this morning he was more curious and moving around. he ate his hay while I was gone during the day. when I got home, I opened the cage and let him explore on his own. he's warmed up to me super fast. he's already being sassy pushing me away from his blanket with his nose when I tried to clean. he kept coming over to me and either laying down on his side beside me, sniffing me, or standing up and using me as support. he did get stressed while I was cleaning his cage but he's back in there and drinking now.
what can I do for them to help them all get adjusted to each other, especially Timmy? is there anything I need to watch out for? this is my first bunny.
