Hi everyone, my bunny recently tested positive for E. cuniculi.
From her lab results:
• IgM levels are low (which I understand suggests no active acute infection)
• IgG levels are quite high, indicating a more long-term presence of E. cuniculi in her body
My vet said:
“We usually don’t start treatment unless there are clear clinical symptoms. If that happens, we’d do a 28-day Panacur course.”
But I’m struggling a bit with what that means in real life.
A bit about her:
• She’s 10 months old now
• She’s had a slight head tilt ever since we got her when she was about 2 months old, but it’s never worsened
• About a month ago, her right eye started developing what looks like a cataract (confirmed by vet)
• No rolling, no loss of balance, no paralysis. She eats, sleeps and hops around as an otherwise very healthy bunny
I wanted to ask people who’ve been through this:
• If your rabbit tested positive but wasn’t actively symptomatic, did you start Panacur anyway, or just monitor?
• Do you keep Panacur at home just in case, and start it yourself if symptoms become pretty clearly EC-related?
• Or do you always wait to see a vet first, even if that might take a few days?
Thank you for your advice!
