Advice on cleaning undercarriage

Hi All,

I have had Tito for a few years now, and a few medical problems have had him using the litter box a lot more than usual (working with my vet currently, so don’t worry). Given this, I got him a much larger box, I’m cleaning it more often, and I made it easier for him to get in and out of. This has been a big help, but after being out of town for a few days and only being able to find somebody to stop in and give him some attention once a day while I was gone, his undercarriage got rather matted and quite gross. I’ve been able to brush/trim out the mats while wearing gloves, but the area is in desperate need of cleaning. Does anybody have any recommendations? The only answer I could find online was using a very shallow and warm bath, but I’m not particularly keen on that idea if there are better options. I’ve never put him in water before, it’s my understanding that is a big no-no.

Butt baths are a thing for rabbits – the wiki should have some good information about it.

And you can get rabbits wet but you want it to be a small area that you can dry easily (not the whole body).

    Good luck!

If the poop is runny & sticking, a little bit of oats in the food will tighten things up.
My wife volunteers at a rescue & they use oats for some of the senior rabbits.
