Last night I decided to say good bye to my girl, Usagi. She was ten years old and receiving palliative care. It was the first time in her life she turned down food and she was in a lot of pain despite medication. I am glad she got to go peacefully while I held her in a warm blanket instead of alone while I was at work.
I will miss her very much – her kisses, the way she would literally try to climb up my leg to get treats, the way she assumed she just owned the whole house and everything in it. I'll miss her sneaking into the kitchen to beg for veggies everytime she heard the fridge open and the way she'd carefully groom her stuffed unicorn.
I wish I had taken more pictures. I wish I had been able to introduce her to grass but she hated the harness vest and chewed it off everytime I tried to get her acclimated. Usagi never did anything she didn't want to do and all the other animals in the house, including our dog and cats knew she was the queen. She was super affectionate if sassy and I am going to miss her horribly.
