Hi Folks,
We adopted Bo (white with pattern on his nose) in January and have him since then. We believe he’s about 2-3 years old. We/my partner has had Nugget (orange with one up ear, (ear issue unrelated)) for about her entire life and she’s just over 8 years old.
The first month of bonding we noticed some dominance from Nugget who is spunky, but oh so gentle and kind. Bo is the sweetest guy ever and is a bit heavier than Nugget (he’s ~6lbs and she is ~3lbs). He takes her acts of dominance really well and tends to not react. It was less of an issue after the first couple of weeks of bonding and they seemed to have bonded SUPER fast without issues, always needing to be near each other.
Recently, within the last two weeks or so, Nugget has been showing dominance again whenever me or my partner are petting them at the same time and stop, Nugget basically “revvs up her engine” out of nowhere and vibrates manically before getting on top of him. I told my partner that this has been happening and I can’t quite figure it out. I tend to stop her before it gets out of hand, but this time it happened after my partner stopped petting them and we could hear rumblings around, catching them before it looked like fighting began. I could tell Nugget was getting WAY too aggressive and Bo was about to try and defend himself.
Bo was rescued from an unsupervised breeding situation where his ear tips were mangled by other bunnies so I’m worried that if Nugget gets aggressive while we’re asleep, we won’t be able to monitor what happens.
I plan on sleeping on the couch near them tonight and can be a lighter sleeper at times.
Any thoughts or advice are appreciated.
They are both free roaming and have been since the second week Bo has been with us.
Recently though, Nugget
ETA: Both are fixed. Nugget had a sibling for a couple of years but was solo for four.
