Bunny

PLEASE!!! How to help this baby!!!

We adopted her from someone who was rehoming their pet bunny as they had to many. I was advised not to purchase them from breeders anymore as I was having issues with past rabbits and mistreatment from rabbit breeders I have been around. This baby’s name is Reba and she is approximately 4 years old. The photos that were advertised led us to believe that these were just outdoor bunnies, but when we showed up it was a breeder. The cages were rusted and wire bottomed. When we were handed the bunnies I immediately noticed that Reba here has a serious eye infection. There was much more white gunk on her eye before, but I managed to carefully clean it with a warm cloth. After I cleaned it, the area surrounding her eye appeared RAW. The picture is not too clear because of the lighting in my room and I don’t want to disturb her more, she is already shaken up. She has been shaking and making an angered purring noise, trying to run as far away as she can since the moment she was placed in my arms. She, as well as the other bunny we got, has extremely long nails. We are talking about AT LEAST an inch long. We did our best to clip their nails with the nail clippers we have, but their nails are MUCH too thick to get them to a perfectly healthy length. On her sister, Stevie, ( 1 1/2 year oldI also noticed potential sore hocks on the her. She had some small raw, pink spots of skin on her hocks, which I believe is caused by the wire bottom cages & obesity, believe me, Miss Stevie is extremely CHUNKY. On the good side, they are both eating, and opposed to Reba being terrified, Stevie is very friendly and energetic. Stevie is bouncing around my room as happy as can be as I type this. For now, I have placed Reba in a clean medium-sized dog crate with some hay, water, and chewy toys until i can get her infection cleared up. I tried to let her run around, but she flocks to a corner in fear and starts growling. Reba is a sweetheart and was giving me little kisses the whole car ride home, but I’m saddened such sweet babies have been mistreated so much. I called my local vet today and they referred me to a vet that treats rabbits well, so I will be calling them first thing in the morning tomorrow to get them scheduled for some check ups and vaccines, as well as looking at prices for spaying. In the meantime, what can I do to get them situated and feeling better?
