I realized around 7:30pm tonight when I went to refill my adult bun’s litter boxes that I was out of hay (I’ve owned them all for for 10+ years and this has never happened, I’m usually on top of keeping hay in stock but I think the holidays threw me off). I went to the only place open near me which was an exotic pet shop.
I asked what kind of hay they had and the owner said he “thinks” it’s a blend of orchard and Timothy. He couldn’t say with 100% certainty that it had no alfalfa. I only got a small bag of it to hold me over until tomorrow but I’m hesitant to feed it to my buns.
Does anyone here know hay well enough to tell if this has alfalfa in it and how much? I’ve tried to do some research but am having trouble telling. The strands are green, but much thinner than what I’m used to.
Would it be better to give them this not knowing what it is or to wait to refill their hay until I’m off work at around 5pm tomorrow? I don’t want to give them GI stasis 😭 I know alfalfa can be given as a treat, but if there’s somehow a lot in there could it harm them within a day?
