Hiii everyone!! wanted to just share a story bear with me as it's long.
My name is Angelina I'm 20F currently studying in college still and my bun whose name is Momo she is around 8 months had been sick for the past week.
I was extremely stressed it was her first time getting sick and I'm a first time bun owner unable to sleep cus she wasn't eating at all for almost 2 days and since she was in pain after that her appetite lessened even more. I was pretty sure it was GI stasis which scared and terrified me more cus, i live in India and in a state and city where I do not have any access to the right treatment and her health could deteriorate really fast. I don't have a supportive household and people around me so I had to handle this alone.
I ran around hospital to hospital worried about not getting the correct treatment everytime so I called many doctors and hospitals who were willing to see and help and even got her an X-ray done. The first place I went to has had rabbits at the clinic before so I wanted to trust it but their cost was too high for me and I did not have funds like that for a 2nd visit there… I then took her to the next place which was the government veterinary hospital it was very affordable for me at the time… And they had an exotics pet unit but what shocked me was the doctors all seemed like students only and didn't know much about handling a rabbit which was instantly a red flag for me I mean they asked me to hold her down for an x-ray and one of them tried holding her by the scruff of her neck which angered me anyways so I left there with a prescription for her one of which was a STEROID! She hadn't been eating and on an empty stomach I was not going to give her such a medicine which could harm her already sensitive stomach.
Although I'm visiting those clinics I went online on call with other doctors for multiple opinions and the clinic which was nearest to my house despite not having experience with rabbits himself he was the kindest doctor I've had during this entire stressful period he told me to not give her those medicines I was prescribed earlier and bring her to the clinic itself as he has a worker friend who has had a rabbit for 6 years now and she will help me out and I went there.
I was honest about the fact that I had no money at all to treat her anymore cus I'm a college student whose parents don't give me money like that for me pet rabbit plus they dislike her and don't care if anything happened to her. And then the girl i met there she told me not to worry as she is giving me a care package out of her pocket cus of how urgent the treatment had to be. I got a shot done and they fed her some medicine and then I was told to go home and purchase and give her 1ml of colic aid infant gas drops and then the benebac medicine which she had given to me for free as it is very expensive here.
she also gave me sherwood recovery food to give my rabbit and told me a schedule to follow. She asked me for updates and would help me monitor and give what was required after looking at her aswell. She and the kind doctor was the biggest help I had gotten this entire week and now my bun had gotten better she is much more livelier and moving around her gut motility has stabilized and her stool is now even and regular previously it was hard uneven and angular. I'm so happy she is safe now and i couldn't thank them enough for their help. My rabbit was rescued thanks to them 💗
