His heart gave out at the vet today. He stopped eating anything he had to chew the night before last but lapped up consistent bowls of critical care and was drinking. Reduce bowels but appeared to be getting better last night with a pile of cecotropes and good urine output. Woke up today to his 3rd eyelid swollen and figured he had a tooth and or eye infection causing the eating issues and therefore, gi stasis issues. Brought him in and they gave iv fluids and pain meds then gave him a break before doing more tests. He went into cardiac arrest and they couldn’t get him back. They suspected a liver lobe torsion because he had a 105 fever but it was negative on the necropsy. His lungs appeared to have had a long term infection. He had zero signs of any respiratory issues. They are sending samples out for testing. I am devastated and have had to wait hours before I can tell my kids when they will be all together. It’s been a shit year already and this will be gut wrenching for them. He was my absolute JOY. I am wrecked.
