Bunny

forever and ever

his name was cloud. he used to part his hairline down the middle and tie it into two loppy ponytails every day. he was completely calm and trusting. he was as soft as his name. he smelt like softly perfumed memories and freshly cut grass. he would wait for me all day, sitting on my slippers. he wouldn’t stop his bunny kisses until i moved myself away. he followed me everywhere, even when i was endlessly pacing around my room. we ate together, slept together and sat together in silence. not a word was said, but there was no doubt in our minds. he took half of my soul with him last year, and i am taking good care of the other piece so that we can put it back together again

he was my first pet, and he was a rescue. he was small when he arrived, but he never ate hay. he suddenly developed dental issues, respiratory infections and gut stasis that were only revealed after moving from vet to vet. he didn’t wake up from the anaesthetic during his first dental surgery. my last words to him were “i love you forever and ever”
