This is my bun (almost 2F, spayed) who I've had for about a year. She hasn't had any accidents since recovering from her spay in January of this year. She will always get into the litterbox to "do the doo" but sometimes before that she will sit outside the box for a while and munch on hay from the side. She does this in both of her litterboxes. I catch her doing at this one more often but that may be because this box is set up directly in my line of sight in the living room and the other one is in her pen in the corner of the room (I don't have a vid/pic of her doing it at her other box but will try to attach a photo of her other litterbox setup in the comments for reference).
Since she's not having accidents I'm not too concerned but I guess I'm just wondering if this is a normal behavior? Is there something I need to do to make her box more comfy? Both litterboxes are grated & lined with pine pellets, with a layer of fresh hay on top as recommended by her vet for padding and to encourage more hay consumption. The box pictured in the video is her larger box which I clean at least every third day.

Can’t add a pic in the comments but this is the other litter box we use in her pen, same substrate setup and we clean it every day to every other day. [Small Pet Select Sifting Litterbox](https://shop.smallpetselect.com/collections/litter-for-cats/products/sifting-litter-box)
The grate and pellets might just be too hard to sit on for long periods of time even with the hay. She could just be picky, I feel like if she’s eating and pooping and she don’t have sores on her feet, it’s not something to worry much about.
Mine don’t do this, however I don’t use a grate bottom and I use softer bedding. Maybe try switching it up. Different things work for different people.
Best of luck to you and your bun 💜
