Our beautiful Liefje crossed the rainbow bridge 🌈🐰

With great sadness we had to put down our beloved white mini-satin Liefje yesterday. Devoted bunwife to husbun Pippin. She was all beauty with a light dusting of seal points and astounding eyes. Liefje was loved by her human family.

Liefje died from kidney failure. I am posting the sequence of events so you can recognize the symptoms: Sudden weight loss despite eating drinking and pooping normally. If anything she was drinking ton. She weighed 3.6 lbs at her annual in June.

She started having balance problems and falling off and hitting things which triggered the first emergency vet visit, she was prescribed Meloxicam and critical care. She was down to 2.6 lbs. A week later she was down to 2.1 lbs. even with us lacing the critical care with apple juice. I rushed her to back the vet. She was so dehydrated that the vet had problems drawing her blood. The vet said she was in severe renal failure and recommended a transfer to animal hospital ICU or humane euthanasia.

We decided that it was time to end her suffering. As I know how painful kidney stones are. I took her home so our family could say goodbye. I then brought her to Tufts Veterinary School so I could donate her in hoping she will inspire some to become exotic vet(s). They had a very pleasant room for us to say goodbye. I held Liefje until she passed. My husband held Pippin, her bonded mate, next to her. Today, Pippin kept going into the carrier to look for her.

Memory Eternal Liefje 🐰
