'My heart has joined The Thousand, for my friend stopped running today.'
It's with tremendous grief and sorrow that I share the passing of our sweet boy, Buff. He has gone onto the great fields to join the warren of El-ahrairah. Last night (10/22/25) at 11:00pm CST we let him go. We did all we could, but he was old and it was just his time.
He was surrounded by his family, including his bonded brother, Biff, that he has know since birth. We ensured Biff had enough time to be with his body after he passed and he was able to grieve.
We always kept them close and have always made their enclosure in the center of our homes as they were quite literally the 'heart' of our house.
Buffy has brought so much joy into our lives and for that I would gladly feel this grief thousands of times over. He lived a rich, full life for a rabbit at over 12 years old, but it's never easy to say goodbye or to give one last embrace.
I have been in complete shambles all day and have been giving extra love/observing Biff as he processes being a lone rabbit for the first time in his 12 years (he has been eating and acting normal, a little sad though)
Does anyone here have advice on how to process this massive loss and grief I feel?
How have you experienced helping your rabbit overcome the loss of a bonded partner? What has/hasn't worked for you? Considering Biff's advanced age, I don't think we would get another one for him to bond with.
