I originally bought her as a black polish rabbit but she was never really directly in the sunlight but I put her directly in the sunlight and she has these brown patches that almost look brindle so she's more like black and brown which is weird because she's supposedly is kind of a steel as well as she has the white speckles down her back. Does anybody know what causes this odd coat color or is it really just the sun I don't think it is as the splotches are very well defined and you can tell the difference between them and the black.

My black bun was exactly the same in the sun. I just mark it up to normal honestly.
No her colour seems normal to me :). She’s adorable.
Usually it happens either due to nutrition or if they were sun-bleached. It should even out with a molt.
Changing into a winter coat?
It appears that she’s been left outside in the past, as long as she stays inside it should go back to normal
I have a black polish too! I guess I’ve never actually gotten him in the sun so idk if he’s like this too, but my pure black cat was actually a secret tabby if he got into direct sun so I think this is pretty normal for black fur.
Bun: you look odd to me and I am not exposing you on Reddit
I have a TAMUK and she looks exactly like this! So cute!
I’ve heard about the fur changing color with the sun but shes a full time indoor bun. We do have the blinds partially opened during the day so she gets some sun but thats about it.
Black rabbits that like sitting in the sun go a little bit brown.
Could be colour change related to moulting.
Cyz the butiful
Probably she’s been sunbathing!
I have a black Polish too, and she looks just like that.
So unique
What a pretty bun
Mine looks like this in the light too
I’ve always been told every animal with a black coat can have different colored under coats. My black cat is 13 and he has that same auburn/red color in the sun, and my Bernese mountain dog is a tru black in the sun
