Bunny

Post-neutering destructiveness

Hi, i had a few questions regarding our male bunny after his neutering. He is a rescue, about 1-year old. We’ve had him for 5 months total and foster failed after the first 4 months of that time so we’ve adopted him forever. Before neutering, he was 100% in using the litter box, no urine marking, very little destructive behavior like chewing baseboards, etc. He was a perfect little guy!

He was neutered about 4 weeks ago and about 2 weeks ago (about when he was fully recovered) he started to become very destructive, chewing the baseboards which we had soaped, destroyed his hammock despite bitter apple spray on the straps, chewed a cardboard house to bits, chewed holes in the waterproof mat in his 6’ x 8’ puppy pen we keep him in at night, etc etc etc

He’s also become a bit more erratic in terms of behavior, less cuddly, looking a bit spooked at times, and occasionally freezing in place.

He was pretty much perfect in using the litter box before this and now has gotten much worse. He has improved a bit after the first two weeks but there are still a lot more stray poops around his enclosure whereas before the surgery we might get 3 stray poops a day near his litter box probably kicked out when he jumped out as opposed to actually pooped out as he moved around

Is this temporary thing as he adjusts to no testosterone and he will return to normal in a few weeks, or is it a permanent change?

At least he hasn’t started to mark his territory with urine but I’m worried that might be next – he seems to be getting worse in terms of the destructiveness and oddness the last 3 days or so

Tbh I expected the opposite of all of this after he was neutered…
