Rabbit

Bunnies started fighting

Hi!

Like the title says our bunnies has started fighting. They got along without any real issues for over a year with only the occasional sibling scuffle when food was involved. Just a few days ago this changed, they started fighting for real for no apparent reason.

The fights are usually started by our female rabbit (the one without spots) and she also seems to want to instagate often. Our male (the one with spots) oftentimes comes up to her to say hi or socialize and that's when she goes on the offensive.

We have made sure to separate them as quickly as possible when this happens and they have not been allowed to really interact much without something dividing them for about three days. They were separated after a particularly bad fight where a larger tuft of fur was ripped off of one of them along with some skin. When this happened we also heard one of them, presumably the one who lost fur/skin scream. As it was dark when this happened we were not able to intervene as fast as other times and that is probably why it got so bad.

We have an appointment to get our female neutered in about two weeks and our male is already sorted. Is this a behavior that could be cause due to hormones from not neutering her or could it be something else? Any tips on how to re-introduce them or on how to keep them separate in a good way?

Thanks for any help you can give us!
