Rabbit

Struggling to bond my bunnies – any hope for two dominant rabbits?

I could really use some advice (or even just some hope). I’ve had Cookie since she was five weeks old, and a little over a month ago I adopted Keks. At the adoption center we did bunny speed dating, and they got along so well that everyone thought they’d be best friends right away.

But as soon as we got home, things
completely changed. Both of them want to be the dominant one, and we’ve had a few fights. I’ve tried carrier car rides, small neutral spaces, and even brand-new areas that don’t smell like Cookie. Their cages are side-by-side, and they’ll often sleep in the same spots next to each other through the bars, but every time I try to give them a playdate together it ends in fighting.

I’m starting to wonder if this will ever work out. Do two dominant bunnies ever learn to live in peace? I really miss letting Cookie free-roam, and I want Keks to have that freedom too. I hate keeping them cooped up in pens all day when the whole reason I adopted a second rabbit was so Cookie could have a husbun and not be lonely.

Has anyone else been through this? Did it feel hopeless at first, but eventually your bunnies figured it out? Any tips, encouragement, or success stories would mean the world right now.

Thanks in advance!
