Bunny

An update on Daisy

Hi everyone! About a month or so ago my fiancé and I got a bunny from a family that “didn’t have time for her anymore”. We are first time bunny parents and we in desperate need of advice from everyone. About a month later and we have an update! First, we updated her ugly old cage into an x-pen with waterproof bedding and a new litter box. We’ve also been letting her out everyday for an hour or so and she loves exploring!! We’ve also let her have supervised time out of her enclosure to spend time with our cats. They’re all very interested with each other. She had her first vet appointment today and was confirmed to have fleas which she did give to our cats. We got some flea medicine for everyone. She also got prescribed an antibiotic for a possible respiratory infection. Other than that though, she is perfect! She gets oxbow pellets, half goes in her bowl and the other half in a forage mat. We feed her butter lettuce, cilantro, and parsley everyday and slowly giving her new veggies to try. She is still warming up to us, when we go to clean out her litter box sometimes she will lash out but that’s understandable, it’s her territory and she doesn’t know us well enough yet. She’s a little sassy and we love her so much. The only issue we really have is with toys. I buy her wood toys, play mats, stuff hay into toilet paper rolls but the only thing she really likes are seagrass balls and flavored balsa blocks. She also likes to flick her litter out of her litter box almost everyday as well but we clean it up everyday so it isn’t an issue. All in all Daisy is doing pretty great and seems happier with us. I can’t wait until she blossom into her true self! We love her so much and can’t imagine life without her! Thank you all for your advice, we couldn’t have done it without you!! Enclosure update photos are in the comments!

My only suggestion would be to put her hay where her litter box is since buns need to eat hay while using the restroom! Also, maybe providing her with a deeper and darker hiding space so she can run into when she’s scared

I was so worried when I saw that first picture! I thought “oh no, that’s a terrible cage! Someone tell this person what a terrible cage that is!!!”

Your actual enclosure for her looks lovely!! You clearly love her a lot!!

Daisy looks really happy in her new space. I took a look at your profile and saw where she was before. It’a so sad that people think that is an acceptable amount of space for a bunny. Thank you so much for rescuing her, it sounds like she has a great life with a loving family ahead of her!

fyi, bunnies do just well with typical cat litter boxes, it would help getting less mess everywhere! (as long as she has no mobility issues that would make hopping inside hurtful)

thanks for helping this sweet baby
