I think it has something to do with a grooming reflex. When I scratch my Rockets ears, and hit the right spot, she will lift up the paw to the corresponding ear and start to lick it.
Your hand was in the way, so they couldn’t get their paw all the way to their mouth.
Mine licks the air if I rub his ear; my late rabbit did the same if you scratched her butt.
I forgot about that because my current senior buns don’t like to be petted but yes all of my buns have had this reflex. I wonder what it’s for – maybe to push aside the others when they get too close while nursing?

When I cross my legs to make a diamond she will go in there and rest her head on my leg for me to pet her, and when she does this, I feel her little paw coming up against my leg and actually it’s the best thing in the whole world

No but one of mines little arm goes (as we call it ) south for the winter where it keeps sliding back to his sides before he resets it and does it again. With each pet 😭 it’s so cute!!!! 🥰 He like, flattens himself to the ground, curls into the hand and his arm keeps sliding up and down, what is this 🤌
