Bunny

adopting a third bunny

hi everyone! this is lola (left) and charlie (right) and they have been bonded for 4 years almost. lola is quite a bit older than charlie as i got her as a rescue and didn’t know her age until she started showing signs of being a senior. charlie is turning 4 in november and they are the sweetest little bonded pair 🥹🥰
lola lately has been showing signs of ageing and maybe very early kidney disease (although she is 95% perfect!!!). i know that once she passes it could be very stressful for charlie (im hoping he can be aware of it as much as possible) and i was wondering how much more helpful it would be to include a 3rd bunno in our home before that happens so he is already bonded.
the only main issue is that lola is not spayed as i didn’t know how old she was when i found her and surgery can be more dangerous for rabbits as they age so i just never wanted to put her through it. she is also a little ✨bitch✨ at times (we love her for this) so i imagine i would need to get another (neutered) boy but i’m not sure if that would cause issues with charlie? he’s a fairly easy going bun (i have 2 cats that he gets along with mostly and he likes dogs as well), the bonding process was SO EASY honestly.
i’m not sure how far down the line this would be as i don’t think lola is anywhere close to passing i just wanted to see other people’s opinions on this who maybe did something similar or the opposite and bonded 2 buns after 1 passed… the more time i have to prepare the better!
we also have an amazing vet who i will also ask about this and i am a vet assistant so i have many resources once the time comes! and i would be looking at a bun close to his age and possibly somewhere i could foster to adopt or somewhere that has a bonding program to ensure he’s happy with his new friend.
