Humane society bunny adoption

Hello bunny friends! My family just lost a bunny on Monday last week. It was really bad but we have another bunny already and even though they weren’t bonded bc he hasn’t been fixed he appears to be looking for her when he is out. They did have a hutch he had the penthouse and she had the first floor since she was free roam and litter trained.

I looked at a bunny on my local humane society website who is super cute but has been in a bad situation. The bunny has been neglected pretty severely. He has very very matted down fur and a lot of it is near his hind quarters. Which worries me bc they don’t like being bothered there. He is timid as expected, three years old, untrusting, all the typical signs so I’m unsure if he will be comfortable with me combing the mats out. I have a razor that is quiet and vacuums up hair that I use for my dogs, not sure if that’s a good idea with the bunny. Also, not sure any other way to get the mats out.

I was there for about an hour with him today and he pooped once didn’t pee at all. The poop was very tiny. I’m used to bigger sized poops in my rabbits and the hay they had wasn’t interesting him, but he was also pretty timid and probably overwhelmed. I’m worried because my bunny passed away and had issues with her teeth that I was unaware of and idk if this bunny is sick or not. They assured me he isn’t but the signs didn’t look great and they had no notes from a vet checkup saying anything about his teeth health or anything else.

They will fix him there which would be great and then he can come to my home and once my bunny is 3 lbs I can get him fixed as well. Unfortunately because neither are fixed I can’t introduce them to see if they get along. So I won’t know until I commit to him whether or not they do. I also can’t take him to my vet to be checked out first because they don’t allow that.

I have a couple of questions I’m hoping you all could assist with.
1- how do I clean this bunny up and get the mats out of his hair? With him being stressed and timid I worry that I won’t be able to do it and he’s sufferin, I’m sure, because it has to be painful.

2- should I be worried about him being sick with only pooping once and it being so small, or could that potentially just have been stress related?

3- what if my bun and this bun don’t mesh? He has been in a crate his whole life so I don’t think it would be fair to bring him here without knowing if they get along. I want both the bunnies to be free roam. Also, I have two dogs who are great with the rabbits but are curious when they come home and like to try to play with them. It’s been fine with the younger ones but idk if it will be too much for a bunny that has been traumatized by neglect and being stuck in a crate his whole life. He has been at the shelter for a month and the bunny he came with got adopted out but he hasn’t.

Any thoughts or suggestions or should I just let this little guy be and hope someone else gets him that will be kind and give this little guy a loving home to roam free in? I feel drawn to him bc he is so sweet and I want him to have an enjoyable rest of his life. I’m scared to bring a sick rabbit home because it was so dramatic when Dani passed and idk if it could be passed from this rabbit to my rabbit who is still very young and quite little.
