How can I get my bunny to use her litterbox more?

I recently got this cute little covering for her litterbox. To keep mess and oders down, plus it looks cute. She had no problem using her litterbox before I put it in the litterbox cover. She used the covered litterbox correctly for the first few days, then she started peeing on the floor. Now she just used the bathroom all over the floor in front of her litterbox.

Nothing else has changed. She’s been acting normal and very sweet. I give her lots of attention. And she has many toys I keep on rotation. This happens at all times of the day. I’ve had to put a pee pad down so she won’t ruin the carpet.

The photo is what happened in 10 hours while I was at work.

Any advice helps a lot! I’m so tired of this

I’m having the same issues as well! My bun won’t pee in her litterbox. Hope someone can help you out!

  2. If she isn’t a litterbox digger, consider removing the litter box cover. I only see one opening from the thumbnail and maybe that is why she doesn’t want to use it. Rabbits don’t like to feel trapped so they prefer at least two exits. Not all rabbits feel this way but yours may feel like it.

Also, if smell is an issue to you, means you need to clean it more often. There may be lots of ammonia trapped inside and it is even unpleasant for your rabbit!

Another thing is, is their hay in the litter box? They like to eat and do their business at the same time. Maybe put her bowl of pellets and greens inside for feeding time. Keep hay always in her litter box! Good luck.

We clean the litter boxes twice a day minimum, as soon as they’re “too dirty” we get more poops outside and pee over the edges (onto the secret pee pads). What sort of litter are you using? Ours will only use paper based, anything else and they rebel in gross ways. They also need constant fresh hay/forage in or by their toilet to encourage them to eat/poop in one location.

The cover is likely the issue if they had no problem using it before.
