   This is the famous “negative pressure-actuated wake-up switch.” See, how it works is that the bun compresses itself into a less than ideal position and uses the weight of its friend to maintain that pressure. When its friend moves (such as to solicit treats from its hooman), the pressure is released and the bun, noticing a state of change in its comfort level, wakes up.

   Alternatively, proximity may induce a need to groom in the other bun. This results in fun social behavior *and* helps with grooming hard to reach places.
