Solar storm alert: Two coronal mass ejections (CMEs) released by the Sun on October 7 and 8 are expected to influence Earth’s magnetic field. According to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the faster CME may merge with the earlier one, potentially intensifying geomagnetic activity. NOAA issued a G2 (Moderate) geomagnetic storm watch for October 11, following G3 (Strong) storm conditions recorded on October 10. The possible effects include fluctuations in some power systems, changes in satellite operations and disruptions to high-frequency radio communications, mainly at higher geomagnetic latitudes. The actual impact depends on the speed and magnetic orientation of the incoming solar material. A geomagnetic storm does not automatically mean widespread disruption or danger to everyone.
