I wanted some advice on how to encourage free roaming. I got a second rabbit back in Jan for my lone bun. They are fully bonded, have my bedroom and the upstairs hallways to free roam, but my original bun used to free roam the whole house and would bite at the barrier I had at the top of the stairs to get out.
I opened up the stairs and bottom landing as he was desperate to keep roaming, and has had that space for about 2 weeks now. My new bun hasn’t come down the stairs into the new space (I know its more difficult to go down first than up, my original bun was originally downstairs and learned the stairs by going up)
I’ve tried luring her down with a trail of treats and greens but my other bun eats it all before she has a chance 😂
The other day I carried her down to help her get used to the space and go up them herself first. Is this going to be the best way for me to help her get used to the space and learn to do the stairs or should I let her figure it out herself? I want her to have more freedom and eventually let them free roam the house again but I don’t want to keep expanding space for my original bun as I’m worried it could affect their bond if he spends lots of time elsewhere without her and becomes territorial of the space.
I guess my question is do I bring her down once a week to help familiarise her with the space and stairs or now shes been up them once let her do it in her own time? Or what methods have you used to help encourage coming down the stairs? TIA x
