Rabbit

HELP At what point do I give up on bonding?

2 sibling males

9months old

both spayed

before I say anything, I am not giving up either rabbit. I’m happy to keep with the layout that I have right now. We love them too much. They are both very sweet boys by themselves.

I have two boys they’re both neutered not a year old yet, they used to be Besties they would grooming each other, not leave each other side, would sleep together, would flop next to each other.

But after we got them castrated last year, they had a fight and ever since then they have not forgiven each other. for months now, I have tried to bond them over and over but nothing seems to help. they are separated into two parts of the house. They can see each other and interact through the fence which is seemed to help they don’t fight through the fence or anything but. The last time I tried to bond them, they were so adamant on hurting each other that I had to stop everything because it was too stressful.

and this morning, I don’t know how it happened (one probably jumped over the fence which they have never done before) but I woke up to both rabbits ripping at eachother (if you ask, I can describe the fight) in the same room I quickly separated them and checked for wounds. Everyone seems fine. yeah.

but I’m just so frustrated I’ve slowly been placing stones, where they have small nice interactions and they don’t fight and they groom each other and bonding seems okay. but i’m losing hope

i’ll tell you how a typical interaction goes

situation 1

Male 1 & male 2 the first thing they do is come up to each other and both bow male 2 gives up and grooms male 1. male 2 stops and walks away. male 1 does not like that and bites male 2. male 2 then gets spooked and either runs or fights back.

Situation 2

male 1 and 2 bow male 2 grooms male 1 and then both are happy and ignore. male 2 starts following male 1. male 1 doesn’t want to be followed and the they fight

any questions? I would love to answer. I just want help.
