Bunny

Having to give away my Coco

I’ve had this little bun for the past 3 years and I love him very deeply. But due to a change in my financial situation, I have to go back to living with my mom and she won’t allow a bunny in her house. I contacted the last owner and she is not interested in taking him back. I really don’t know what to do with him. I don’t want to leave him at a refuge but I don’t want to leave him with anyone either. What should I do?

Edit: For those interested, I live in Quebec Canada

I’m so sorry to hear this. I know it’s so incredibly difficult. Wherever Coco winds up, I’m sure you’ll make sure at a minimum it will be a reputable rabbit rescue or a no-kill shelter. Please don’t rehome him to someone you meet yourself online, Reddit, etc., as while most on here are likely wonderful rabbit owners, there are people who look for animals on the internet who don’t have the best intentions for them.

A reputable rescue will be able to properly vet Coco’s new forever home to make sure he winds up in a safe, loving place. Thank you ♥️🐇

Contact local rabbit rescues. Be aware that surrendering can cost a bit of money which is like a donation for taking on the responsibility of your rabbit. But the peace of mind is very much worth it.

Maybe a friend or a family member who can adopt the rabbit, so you can still visit and not loose touch?

If youre in/around Indiana and coco is fixed, I would consider taking them in!

Do you have a friend that can house them for a while until you can get your own place again?

You could try a local rabbit rescue. Alternatively Kijiji if you vet the ppl, obviously. Is she spayed?

Would love to have him, but cannot speak horse-French.

As a rabbit rescuer and foster, please reach out to your local rescues. Hopefully they can help you find a foster or new permanent home.

As someone who’s had to give away a pet rabbit before, I know just how this feels, and I hope Coco finds a great home

I am so sorry, it is heartbreaking that you have to rehome Coco 😞
I am very lucky, when I had to move in with one of my parents I was able to take my bunny Louie, as long as he was in the bedroom with me and in a cage when I was not there.
It made me save so hard to get back to my own place.

I really really hope for a miracle for you 🙏

Hi there I went through a similar situation. I highly highly suggest a private local Facebook page. They have groups for rabbits looking for homes. It really does hurt to have to give up a bunny. Remember to always put an adoption fee in the post. Once you meet the owner, you can retract the adoption fee if you’d like. ** On the brighter side of things though, my girl went to a home with wayy more than I could provide. She was a really sweet lady obsessed with bunnies and anime. Her and her husband worked opposite schedules, and they bonded my rabbit to their rabbit so my bunny got 1. A boyfriend 2. More attention and 3. Way more space because the bunnies roamed the house. She still sends me update pictures now and then. I hope this helps you feel better about the decision. It made me feel better knowing she was going to a good home.

Please be very careful who you home to and do not just hand over to any random from a rehome group. There are tons of people who scour the internet for free animals for an array of malicious purposes and rabbits are frequent victims of this.

A rehoming fee and vet references can help some.

He is gorgeous. We’re in Saint John NB. Not sure how we would get there but we may be able to help.

Edit: Has he lost his trouble puffs?

Good news everyone! I talked with my mom and she agreed to give the little guy a chance! He’s moving in with me!
