Recently i visited a local elementary school and they had hired a mobile petting zoo. A lot of the poor buns there seemed to be in really bad shape, though I was only able to look around for three minutes.
Many of the long-haired rabbits have severe matting.
One in particular that I pet had matting covering half of its body, even areas which rabbits should be able to easily groom. Many of the bunnies were kept in cages with wire bottoms. These cages were big enough for about three of them and had no shade. I noticed a couple that seemed to have eye infections and cuts in the area. One rabbit, in particular, had a very prominent bald spot and was constantly trying to hide from the children. Three bunnies had bundled up together in a small hidey hole in an attempt to get away. Most were hyperventilating.
When I brought my concerns to an employee sitting nearby, he ignored me before telling me that "they are taken good care of."
i went to give them a bad review on yelp and I found one from four years ago that claimed the owners were throwing the buns around in cages.
This looks like neglect to me, but I'm honestly not completely sure. I've been having trouble reaching out to people since the owners are located in a separate city than the one I witnessed this in. I was told to reach out to the police of the people in my city, but the animals are almost certainly in their home city.
any help with this would be greatly appreciated!
