How To Cope With Bunny Loss? (For Human and Bunny)

Hello everybun. My wife and I had 2 bunnies we rescued when they were around 2 weeks old. One boy(Tofu) and one girl(Mochi). Initially vet thought they were both girls so our girl bunny gave birth to 11 babies which we all carefully adopted out(except one he/she could not grow and died a baby😞). Then we spayed/neutered them and made them bond again. They were very happy and lived with each other for more than a year at this point.

Unfortunately our girl started showing symptoms of GI stasis last wednesday. She did not eat and looked like she was in pain so we took her to the vet after not eating for 5-7 hours(we tried to make her eat some pellets (grinded and watered) with a syringe). The vet took x-rays, did blood tests and it seemed like a gas issue. They gave her some medicine and told us to bring her tomorrow. We took her to the vet again at noon(Thursday) and they started to give her medicine and serum to keep her hydrated and she started staying there in a Pet Brooder. She could not keep her body warm for the first two days and only pooped once(they said it was a normal amount and that's a good thing). Last Saturday her body temp became normal (39°C) and they stated that she pooped again that day but her belly got very stretched and she did not want to move at all and still not eaten by herself. We all thought that things were going to get better but they called us Sunday around 8:30 AM to give us bad news that she started getting cold and they did a heart massage and gave her oxygen but could not rescue her.

It devastated us because it was our first time being pet parents and bunny parents(i always did good research about bunnies since they are my favorite animals) and we could not rescue her even though she was just 2.5 years old and very young. We then buried her at a pet cemetery nearby. Her bonded partner Tofu looked like he knew she was missing and has been less energetic for some days(since we took her to the vet). We did not know that we were supposed to show her to him so I don't know if he is still waiting for her. I want some help from everyone, please.

How did you and your bunny cope with bunny loss? (She is the one on the back)

I’m so sorry for your loss. Please make sure your remaining bunny is eating and pooping well as he may think his bonded companion disappeared. As for us, I think we just need to put our minds to taking care of the remaining things we love on earth. Grief is truly just the excess love for someone with no where to go.
