So I’ve been giving alfalfa hay to Fookoo ever since I brought her home as a baby. It’s been 3 months now, and she started peeing a chalky residue (calcium), so I continued giving her alfalfa pellets but switched the alfalfa hay to Timothy hay.
She’s been a picky eater from the start. I’ve been giving her greens and treats in restricted amounts. She has developed a strong interest in flower treats and dehydrated carrot treats, and lately it feels like that’s all she’s been waiting for.
She eats the sweet hay tops of Timothy hay and completely ignores the rest. She’s also been nibbling on some palm leaf bowls.
Have I given her too many options like a buffet, and is that why she finds hay boring? Even though I only give her treats twice a day?
A few days back, I added orchard hay along with Timothy hay because ChatGPT suggested it’s sweeter and she might like it. But I think she hates it even more, lol.
She has started eating Timothy a little less compared to before. ChatGPT advised me to increase her hunger window so that she ends up eating more hay, but I think Fookoo is too stubborn. I don’t want her to lose weight though.
I’ve also tried reducing the amount of pellets and adding smashed flower mix and hay treats on top of the hay, but she just picks through the whole pile to find the mix and ends up not eating any hay.
What should I do?
P.S. She’s really active, waits for food, and interacts with me.Ive not changed the brand of the hay as well.
