Rabbit

First time bunny owner! Any advice?

Hey everyone! I’m about to adopt my first rabbit (his name is Toffee), & I’m super excited but also really nervous! I’ve only ever had cats & dogs before, & I know that rabbits can be vastly different from them. I’ve done SO much research preparing for him, but I’d like to reach out to fellow bunny owners so I can learn more! Google can only tell me so much.

At his previous home, he has been outdoors his whole life. I don’t have the space to keep him as an outdoor rabbit (apartment living yeehaw), so I plan on keeping him strictly indoors with occasional trips outside, hopefully on a bunny-safe harness & leash. I don’t exactly have a way to prevent the change from being drastic; he’ll be going from outdoor to indoor in a matter of hours, but I want to make sure the transition is as comfortable as it can be for him. I’m not sure how much enrichment the bunnies get during the day (if any), so I have a few toys & a snuffle mat for him to try when he’s ready.

He’ll be nine weeks old by the time I pick him up next week, & he hasn’t been handled much since I met him last week. His previous owners right now plan on occasionally handling him over this next week so that he gets a little more used to it, so it’s not such a shock to him when his life changes. That being said, I’ve been told that he’s very sweet already. Of course, I don’t know a lot about rabbits, so his owners may have been just trying to make me happy, haha. I definitely want to neuter him when he is able, & he’ll be going to a vet the soonest I can get him an appointment. I’d also like to litter train him, but I’m not sure what the best way to go about that is.

I’ll take all the advice & tips I can get. 🙂
