Hello everyone, my bun had tooth abscesses and just went through surgery to extract all her lower right teeth, plus the upper right ones had to be filed down. The total bill from start to finish has been over $6,000. Thankfully MetLife covered a portion, but it was still a lot out of pocket tho, without insurance I honestly wouldn’t have been able to afford the surgery at all.
Here’s my problem: I’m about to move to a state where MetLife doesn’t cover rabbits. I looked into Nationwide but they don’t cover pre-existing conditions, and from what I’ve read, tooth abscesses have a pretty high chance of recurring. It also seems really hard to get a definitive “fully cured” diagnosis for abscesses.
So I’m trying to figure out my options:
- Skip insurance altogether and just start saving for any future surgeries
Has anyone dealt with something similar? Any advice on navigating exotic pet insurance with a pre-existing dental condition? I’m really anxious and worried about what happens if the abscess comes back and I have no coverage.
Thanks in advance 🐰
