Her human mama, who I take care of, set a bag of paper litter on the floor yesterday. Lily started to rip it open since obviously it’s hers – it’s the stuff that goes in her litter box, after all!
But I took it. I took it while she was touching it. She was mad.
Shortly after, I put some new botanical hay in her bowl because she wasn’t eating nearly enough hay, so I figured we should try a tastier version. This bunny was fed random human food every single day by the last caretaker. 🙁 I read that this can cause rabbits to be pickier about hay.
But she was so mad at me that she didn’t want me to know the hay was good. She ignored it (and me) for a while. Even when she hopped over to eat it and I heard her munching, she stopped and turned away from the hay if she heard me coming. Later, I even shook a bag of freeze dried apple chips (her favorite treat) and she came toward me… before hopping right on by!
She began to forgive me right before I went to bed, allowing me to groom her for a few minutes. This morning she was asking for pets again, and you can see the results in this video. She has forgiven perhaps, but she hasn’t forgotten (I’m sure).
Btw, I know the shedding is a lot in this video. The brush here isn’t good enough, which I didn’t realize before she started shedding her winter coat. I figured it must be the right comb since it’s what I was offered, but it wasn’t. Lily has allowed me to pluck a great deal of fur out by hand, but it’s just too much for that.
I often feel like I’m scrambling to fix everything the last caretaker screwed up. We’re going to get a good comb today. I had never cared for a bunny before taking this caretaking job and am trying to learn as fast as I can.
