Bunny

Rest in peace, old man Buttons

I took in Buttons less than a year ago to live out the rest of his life in my house instead of outside by himself in a cage only eating pellets. I can't say he got up to much by the time he came into my life but I hope he was happy with the company, treats and greens I was able to give him.
My Great Pyrenees mix would always tolerate him snuffling about in her fur and guard him closely during his outside time, which made for some heart-warming sights. He never seemed the least bit scared or nervous about anything, always an extremely calm guy who took medications and grooming like a champ. Truly a bun of peace!
He was my first rabbit and possibly my last. Every day I was shocked and amazed at the amount a 3lb little animal could eat and poop! I certainly never wasted such an exquisitely crafted resource though, it all went straight to garden/compost.

He now sleeps in the garden he helped grow healthy, nestled in his favorite third cutting timothy hay underneath a rose bush. I think I'll go find a little rabbit statue to add to the garden, too.

I wonder how long I will find bits of stray hay and poop in the house that will remind me of him? When they're gone, I can still see the roses outside my window. 🙂
