So he had castration on Tuesday morning. All good, woke up happy days. He had food there and water, been to the toilet for both. Around 5pm we got him back. A bit sluggish but that is ok, had his gut moving meds at the vets and pain relief. We got critical care and pain meds but he was eating pretty much like normal so no need. I mean hay as normal, he was not keen on his favourite greens or treats. As long as you eat hay, mummy is happy.
10pm, no pee, no poo. I get it, it is normal after the operation, everything slows down, but I am calling the out of hours vets for peace of mind. They say all good, he eats, he moves around, he drinks a little. Next morning, no droppings, no wee. What the hell, that is too long now. He was watched 24 hours, we took shifts to watch him. Worried sick now, called again around 2am. Calling vets at 8am, they say ok bring him in. He got checked over. Temp on, belly squishy and vet can feel poos there. He fights with the vet. Another injection for gut movement, more pain relief, some critical care and water from syringe. Back home.
4pm he drops about 250 poos in like 45 minutes. Ok I am happy, but wait, no wee. Calling vets at 10pm out of hours. I am crying. They ask if he was jumping and stuff. No, we closed off the top tray of the hutch, got everything at floor level. His toys, bed, litter. He does not climb the ladder upstairs. Ok bring him in. We drive to a nearby town for an emergency appointment. He got some stuff done, fed critical care and water etc. Another gut movement injection. I am still crying. Sleep deprived since Monday because I could not sleep worrying about his operation.
Back home, one pee. I cry from happiness this time. Then loads of poos at once, again crying from happiness. Thursday I am crying worried because he again refuses all food and no toilet. Calling vets again. Worried. He drops everything at once again. But no pee. Friday morning he wants to go upstairs. I cry and say no, you have to be at floor level. Then still sobbing I think what if this is his last request so I have to fulfil it. I give him access upstairs. Put litter back. He runs in straight to the litter and uses it. Pee, massive one, then droppings. He comes down straight to his water bowl, drinks plenty, then treats, then pellets, then hay. Toilet again, pee and droppings. Then he does binkies, then zoomies. Then eat, poop, pee. For goodness sake.
He refused to go to the toilet because his litter was in the wrong place. He held it all until it literally fell out of him because of the meds. He did not want to eat or drink so he would not have to hold it. Like come on. All the stress I was in, all the massive vet bills, he made himself poorly because of litter location. No one ever mentioned it. I searched the internet in places I did not even know existed. I had two rabbits previously but their litters were always at floor level. God. I love him so much. He does not even feel sorry, he just knows he is too cute.

Silly guy 🤭 I’m glad he’s ok 🥰💖
This is my boy, he will hold it until he dies if it’s not HIS litter box where HE likes it 😭😭😭
How can a creature be simultaneously so bright and also so not bright 😭😭😭😭
Mine refuses to rat her hay if she doesn’t have water.
Is he a “smooth criminal” or more messy? 🎵
“Put me through beneficial surgery? I’m going to gaslight you and give you the scare of a lifetime out of spite”
We had a similar issue with my boy after his castration.
He was refusing to eat hay, and was only eating snacks, pellets and greens.
Wouldn’t drink at all, we had to syringe feed him water. (Before anyone tells me this is dangerous) we were making a bubble at the end of the syringe and popping it on his lips so he was licking it up rather than syringing it into his mouth.
On top of, he refused to go the toilet. This ended up being because his run door was closed so he couldn’t run around. But we eventually after 12 hours let him out. Because he suddenly felt well enough to try jump a meter into the air to break out of his run. He was launching himself at the top of it to break out.
As soon as the door opened? He was mostly fine. And unloaded into his litter tray – which the whole time was in the same place it always is.
Lethargic still. But he started functioning as normal. Including binkies. Which the vet was fine with providing we checked his stitches and made sure we monitored for damage.
Rabbits are particular creatures. And like things just so, and seem to self destruct when they’re not
Omg this sounds so much like our Benny. Thank gosh your bun is doing better, what a silly guy! Our Benny holds in his pee and poo every time we visit the vet or he’s not in his own bedroom for a while.. I wanna tell him it’s ok dude just let it out!
