She's alive in all of the photos just for clarification.
As mentioned in previous posts I found this gal on the side of the road. Uncertain of her age.
I was going to give her a more proper name, but I called her Rabbit and that's her name as far as I'm concerned. I called her Darling sometimes too.
I took her to get spayed which went well overall. She started eating again. She was really laid back and relaxed, probably from not having all of those hormones to worry about. She stopped eating a few days after and I took her to the emergency vet about an hour and a half away. They said that she seemd to be in pain and she felt like her stomach was slightly bloated. They gave her pain meds and told me to give her critical care that night which I did. The next morning she still hadn't eaten and I called them back. I drove the hour and a half to the emergency vet again, dedicated to getting her feeling better. I had a budget for them which was pushing me to my limits but I could scrape by. They said they would keep her comfortable until the rabbit vet showed up. A couple hours later I got a call saying that she fell over and coded, they could not revive her. This was the first pet I lost and it sure wasn't easy. They gave me some paw prints in ink and some of her fur. They did not even charge me for the exam, just the recessitation attempt.
Maybe the vet did not prescribe the right amount of pain relief or maybe she was just old. There's really no telling what took her in the end, but I know that I did everything I could for her.
Now I've come to terms with the fact that I gave her a good last few months of her life. She didn't die in pain, she was on pain medication. She was not in pain and for the first time in her life unburdened by hormones that were driving her crazy before.
