Nationwide Insurance – Is it worth it?

Hello!

I am wondering if anyone has any advice or personal experience that they can share if Nationwide rabbit insurance is worth it?

For some background, I am 25F living in Pennsylvania, my rabbit is female, spayed, almost six years old, and does not have any major health issues. She has had an eye problem in the past where she received eye drops and antibiotics, but it cleared up for the most part. That eye still produces some extra discharge, but it’s clear and does not seem to bother her and the vet said it isn’t cause for concern yet, it is definitely on her record though.

Last night, I noticed a small, hard, red bump above the left side of her nose. That mixed with the eye issues and some yellow discharge coming out of her nose, I was worried that it was a dental issue or infection. I scheduled a vet appointment this morning and they squeezed her in, and luckily, it only appears to be a cyst and she was prescribed 10 days of antibiotics.

Since I believed that it was a dental issue and those can be pricey, I called Nationwide to get a quote (attached). The only other option that I would consider is $89/month, but with a $500 deductible instead of $1000. I do not have any other pets and do not know anyone else with a rabbit, but these prices seem crazy to me. I know GI stasis and dental issues can be crazy expensive, but the insurance doesn’t seem like it would cover enough for it to be worth paying that much a month. Also, while I would not consider myself financially stable because I have
student loan debt, I have money in my savings to cover an emergency vet bill if necessary without insurance. My credit score is also high to qualify for payment plans from the vet.

What does everyone think? Do you have Nationwide rabbit insurance and has it helped you out? How much money do you pay a month for what type of coverage? Does it just make more sense to put the monthly payment money into a different savings account specifically for rabbit emergencies?

Thank you! 🫶🏻🐰
