Seeking Advice

Hi all, seeking ADVICE or any options you can offer! TIA:)

I’m a long time multiple-bun owner (since I was 8!). I’m looking for some advice, and possibly to rehome. Forgive me if this is not the right group to post this in but I trust those in here the most!

I have been attempting to bond my two female buns for 3 months now, and while I know it is not uncommon to have a lengthy bonding process, we have had a pretty serious fight where I am no longer interested in moving forward. YES, I had done a ton of research prior to this, and I have successfully bonded a pair before (doe/buck). I know that gender makes things difficult, and both are spayed.

These two have separate X-pens with a standard cage door. I free roam both alternating throughout the day/night and they get plenty of time out each, I acknowledge in an ideal world they would both be free roaming all the time (just another reason for bonding). My youngest who is exceptionally smart and high energy has now figured out how to open her own pen door, which resulted in a fight today. Although they have fought before, it’s always been little scuffles under supervision in neutral territory, and I have been able to quickly separate them. This was the most intense and difficult fight I have ever had to separate, and it resulted in my senior bun getting a large chunk of her ear degloved. One emergency vet visit later, she is going to heal but is at risk of needing ear amputation. I have had her the longest of the two, almost 6 years, and she is my absolute life. While I have had the other for almost 1 year, and do care for her deeply, violence and injuries are unacceptable.

Do I keep trying? Do I rehome? I appreciate all perspectives…
