Update on rabbit who gagged eating a tangerine

She’s doing fine, thank you everyone for your comments and concerns! I wanted to clarify that the tangerine was actually for me and I only gave her a single segment of it then moved the plate away after taking this video. This was the first time she ate any fruit in the 2 months I’ve had her, I’m aware of how unhealthy it is and I primarily give her dried flowers as “treats” mixed in with hay in these stacking cups for enrichment like you see in this video.

Regarding the tangerine itself, I was given a list of rabbit safe fruits and veggies to give, with no mention of potential choking risk. Tangerine fruit and skin was on there and I saw videos online of people feeding whole tangerine segments to their rabbits which is why I thought it was safe to give it to her as-is the way I do with veggies, but after speaking to the vet they confirmed that I should’ve cut it into 3 or 4 small pieces for her, and they’ve updated the sheet they give out to state that fruits need to be cut.

I should’ve clarified whether to cut the fruit and I’ll never forgive myself for what could’ve happen. You all will probably be relieved to know there’s no risk of his happening again because I told the shelter I’m fostering her from that I’m no longer planning to adopt, since she deserves someone who will keep her safer than I can.
