Wanted to share a sweet moment of my daughter and our bun and the story of how these two fell in love and a video of where they are today. My daughter loved watching bunnies on tv. Strangely obsessed. We would take her to a local shelter to visit the bunnies as she just seemed to have a natural knowledge of how to “love” a bunny. She became enamored with a bunny there… a beautiful doe and we finally decided to consider adoption. Sadly this senior bunny’s health was at risk and ultimately we decided we couldn’t bear the idea of willingly witnessing her experience such great loss, so young, and sadly she did not come home with us.
Fast forward to me scrolling IG and a video of three baby bunnies popped up. She stopped me in my tracks… “BUNNY”!!! So I stopped and she watched three little fluff balls exploring. She became instantly invested with “the white one” which resulted in her hijacking my phone to watch video after video of this tiny white bunny. I realized quickly that the bunny was local and decided to reach out and, to my surprise, the white bunny was recently passed on by a family and was available. My husband actually agreed it just felt right and we started making plans.
Every day for a month my daughter watched “white” on my phone just cooing over him. The look on her face when “white” was placed beside her in a box just melted me. And to my astonishment he seemed just as smitten with her! Running to her… climbing on her chest… even kissing her toes! From that moment forward she has never asked to watch bunnies on my phone or tv and that’s where this story of soulmates began!
So are bunnies a good starter pet? I’d strongly agree, NO. Do I feel like their relationship is “the norm”? Definitely not. Did I TRULY know what I was getting myself into when I decided to get a house bun? Also hard no… it’s A LOT! 😅 But do I think that sometimes soulmates can cross species divides? After witnessing Wilder & my daughter’s love, I’d have to say yes ❤️ Happy Monday friends!
