Hi all!
Just wondering what people are using for their litter tray set up? We are currently using large cat litter trays with “back 2 nature” litter which is a dust free, recycled paper based litter.
We aren’t going to sacrifice our buns’ comfort however we are going through 60 litres of the litter every 3 weeks. We scoop their toilets multiple times a day (they are not yet completely bonded). Our buns are still young & have lots of growing to do so we expect this will only increase with time!
Any suggestions/ideas would be really appreciated.
Bunny tax attached. This was taken in their bonding pen.
Thanks in advance.

I use a giant corner box from nature’s miracle (without the lid), with the liner, a layer of pelletized horse bedding (40lb from Tractor Supply for $6) for absorbing pee, layer of carefresh paper bedding for soft on peets, and extra hay tucked in the corners (hay bag hangs over and down into the corner box additionally). It needs changed about twice a week, but I’ve let it go longer if I’m honest. For reference, Eden is a 7.5lb, medium sized rabbit and it absolutely dwarfs her. There should be some photos of her near it on my profile. (It’s the black corner box.) The blue one of her in it by the door is a little small with the hay bags hanging down in, since there’s not really room for her to turn around.
I bought her the fancy purina tidycats lidded box and I love it. It’s expensive to buy new but you can find them used on Facebook marketplace for pretty cheap. It has a grate for pee to fall through but the poop and hay stay on top. Hay is waterproof and their poo is dry and pretty sterile so it isn’t unsanitary, 100% of the pee goes through. The pee pads are 50 cents each and I use around 2 a week, which means the monthly cost is less than $10.
She seems happier now than when I had one where both pee and poo fell through and used a feeder bag, since she can dig and arrange it how she wants. I throw her pellets in there and she forages for them.
The pee smell isn’t bad since the tray is enclosed, and I put baking soda on top of the pee pad itself since it’s not accessible to her. When I replace the pee pad I clean the poo as well, the first time in the week I just use the scoop that came with it and grab as much of it as I can. It’s pretty easy since she poops on only one side so I don’t need to pick through the hay or anything.
The second time (at the end of the week) I dump the entire litter box after grabbing any good hay that’s left, usually not much since the day before I stop putting fresh hay in so she finishes what’s there. I spray it with vinegar and wipe with paper towels. Once a month I take the whole thing outside and scrub with soap and water then hose it down.
The accidental benefit I didn’t realize is that the fine dusty hay particles fall through, which are actually not good for them to be eating or breathing in from what I heard. Hope this all helps! If people are curious, I can review all the types I’ve tried so far
