Bunny

Blood in litter, but bunny acts completely normal. Should we worry?

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out because I noticed something quite worrying with my 4-year-old female rabbit, Cookie (not spayed yet). Over the past day, we’ve found what looks like fresh blood in her litter box. There are dark red spots, possibly from urine or some kind of poopy. It’s definitely not pigment from food (she hasn’t had anything like beetroot or dandelion recently).

Cookie is acting completely normal:

• She’s eating and drinking as usual

• Super playful and curious

• Agile, running and jumping

• No visible signs of pain or discomfort

• Poops look normal too

We already called the vet and have an appointment scheduled for tomorrow. I just wanted to ask in the meantime…has anyone experienced this with their bunny? Is this a common sign of something like uterine issues?

I’ve read that unspayed females over 3 can develop uterine problems, including cancer, so I’m definitely worried.

Any insight or similar experiences would be so appreciated. Thank you in advance!
