Rabbit

Re-bonding after litter mate syndrome—one year later?

For context, I got my rabbit about a year and a half ago from a family rehoming one of their two young rabbits. They purchased both from a breeder, put down a deposit before they were even born, and didn’t know the sexes until they got both rabbits. I’m not sure if they were hoping for a male and a female, but they got two males and weren’t willing/able to neuter them. When they started fighting, they decided to rehome one. That’s how I got Mumford.

Mumford is a mix between a Holland lop and a Lionhead. He’s almost two years old and is now fixed. He’s got a big personality. He used to be able to free roam often in my old apartment, but I recently moved into student housing, and I’ve had to keep him in his pen (5’x5’) almost all of the time to protect the carpet and baseboards.

I got a text today from his previous owners asking if I knew anyone who might take his litter mate. I know Mumford has been bored recently, and his destructive habits have resurfaced as a result, and I’d love to give him a friend. I just don’t know if it’s too big of a risk to reintroduce him to a rabbit he’s fought with. It’d break my heart to take the other in and have to rehome him again, but I don’t have the space to keep them apart indefinitely either.

Has anyone had any success re-bonding rabbits after litter mate syndrome? If the other rabbit isn’t neutered yet, any advice on what that timeline might look like?
